Charity Knitting
I hope this finds all of you well.
A friend of a friend of mine, who is
a midwife in Portland, is going to Haiti in May to help Haitian women in childbirth. I suggested we make newborn hats
for her to take there. She thought it was a good idea.
You can read more about Aerlyn
and what supplies she will be needing on her blog
So..
T-SPOT will be collecting newborn and preemie hats - handmade or
not. Deadline is March 31st, 2010. Please check the guidelines and suggestions below. I think that by giving
the new moms something not only practical, but cute and personal for
their baby, we shall help them feel better during this hard time. I hope I am right.
Guidelines:
- Fingering,
sport or DK weight. Sock yarn leftovers work well
- Cotton or
mostly cotton, machine washable fiber
- Unisex
- Newborn size,
some preemie sizes would be good too.
- Deadline is
March 15th
If you feel like writing a short wish in French, you can
pin it to the hat.
As of 12/14/09 I
am working on major renovation for this page. T-SPOT will become a drop-off site for:
- Preemie and chemo
hats
- Squares for afghans
for Afghans
- Helmet liners for troops
- Scarves for foster kids
Stay tuned for more info.
During one Knit Night
at Vino in 2008, Olga and her friends came up with the idea of making some kids' hats to donate to charity. To
make it even more fun, they made a contest out of this idea!
T-SPOT's Kid Hat Contest rules were:
- Please make a simple beanie style hat to fit a kid. Here are the standard
sizes for your reference:
- You can knit it , crochet, felt
it after knitting or sew it together out of felt.
- Use any yarn, no purchase necessary to enter the contest.
- Embellish as much as you
want. Let's make them fun and cheerful!
- All entries were displayed at
T-SPOT, and everyone voted for their favorite hat.
Many wonderful knitters of all
skill levels entered the contest: Valerie Meckey, Karen Hirte, Mary Gehling, Shelley parker, Christie Irvine,
Sharon Spencer, Sage Walden, Lynn Palmer, Marilynn Blacketer, Cynthia Le Brun, Star Frost and Terri Desaro.
The winner of a $25 gift certificate
to T-SPOT Yarn, Teas and Chocolates was Marilynn Blacketer , with Mary Gehling taking the second place and a $10 gift certificate.
